WELCOME TO MIDDAY: HISTORY REPEATING
Solo Show
Created by Sharon Spell

“Welcome to Midday: History Repeating" is a storytelling show about how after growing up in Mississippi, Sharon Spell landed a job as a Victorian house museum docent in Pittsburgh. As she led tours through each of the public and private rooms where a Gilded Age robber baron and his family once lived, Sharon recognized this compartmentalization in her own life. She had made a series of mistakes and to publicly save face couldn’t let on how miserable she was in private. Folks heard her southern accent at work and asked, "How did you get here?" Someway, somehow, she would have to confront the reasons "how" in order to change the course of her own life's tour.

No matter where we go, history will repeat until we learn from our past.

  • Sharon Spell’s “Welcome to Midday…” is sure to keep you laughing while ushering you towards reclaiming the keys to any door this world has closed on you”

    - Joseph Lymous (Actor/Comedian/Puppeteer/Producer, Writer & Performer of “Turning Tigers into Pancakes”)

  • Watching "Welcome to Midday" you feel as if Sharon is an old friend, sharing her secrets with you over a glass of Southern Sweet Tea. Sharon deftly blends humor and sharp wit with her deep personal history. I was so engaged that I was not ready for the show to be over. I wanted more. Go see "Welcome To Midday." I highly recommend it.

  • I could listen all day, for hours and hours, to Sharon speak about anything. In fact, this show makes me wish I could get into the DeLorean and take Sharon's tour of the Frick family home in Pittsburgh. In Welcome to Midday, Sharon takes a hard look at her past in order to love her present, keeping us laughing the whole time. It's cozy, but dark. Sweet and surprising. Hilarious—with lots of heart. FIVE STARS! GO. SEE. NOW.

    — Bailey Swilley (writer, comedian and storyteller of GIMME A SIGN! and A BABY FOR ME? NO THANK YOU, PLEASE!)

  • Sharon Spell takes you on a hilarious tour of her life as a docent in Welcome to Midday, her triple M of a show: mirthful, moving and magnificent.

    — Jamie Brickhouse (writer and performer of Pearl Necklace: A Gay Sexcapade)

  • Sharon is one of the most aptly named artists I know, because every time she speaks she casts a Spell on the room. Watching her perform is like being charmed by your best friend over a glass of perfect lemonade. I could listen to her for hours! Sharon Spell’s wit is matched only by her grace. She is the sweet Southern spitfire we all need! Her wisdom is hard earned and easily shared. What a gift!

    — Carolyn Castiglia (writer and performer of CHUCK voted Best Comedy at United Solo Festival, and Founder of MonCo Comedy)

  • Equal parts hilarious and moving, Sharon’s show is intimate, insightful, and wonderfully entertaining!

    — Melanie Chandra (actor, writer, and producer. Love New York, Grey’s Anatomy, Code Black)

  • It’s hard to find a truly unique solo show among the sea of solo performances in New York City. Welcome to Midday… was such a special treat to see. It was packed with hilarious moments, clever puns (“This is my Mama at the MoMA”), and genuine vulnerability throughout. Sharon Spell has such a natural gift for comedy and storytelling that I could have easily watched her for another hour (or two!) Her story is a testament that it’s okay to start over at any point in life and have fun doing it.  Please go see this show! And thanks to Sharon, I now know what the word docent means.

    — Ian Goldstein (writer, performer, and Webby award-winning producer. The New Yorker, PBS)
